The Ministry of Culture and Communication has awarded Carpentras and the Comtat Venaissin area with the label «Ville et Pays d’Art et d’Histoire», for the quality and diversity of the heritage they offer.
Signs through town provide you information on the monuments, the landscapes and their history.

Le Barroux castle
The castle in Le Barroux was built in the 16th century, during the Renaissance.
It is a good example of transition architecture from the medieval chateau-fort with its high

walls and corner towers, to the aristocratic residence, with graceful, large windows.
You can easily reach the wide southern terrace, from where you overlook the perched village and the rolling plains of the Comtat Venaissin.

Notre Dame d’Aubune Chapel,
in Beaumes de Venise. The tall clock tower is a masterpiece of Provencal Romanesque art (12th century), marked by an elegant, classical style inspired by Roman architecture.
The chapel stands amidst vines, olive trees and cypress, offering a site of unrivalled beauty and splendid views over the Comtat plains.

Groseau spring in Malaucène. Steps away from the village of Malaucène, the Groseau site is an oasis of cool shade and water.
The spring which flows there has provided Malaucène with water since Roman times.
The pure waters led to the installation of a paper mill in the 16th century.
The 11th century Groseau chapel is the sole remaining vestige of the summer residence of Pope Clement V.
The chapel boasts a magnificent cupola on a square base.
