Following the piedmont road means choosing the royal way – the road followed by the pilgrims during the Middle Ages, the path the botanists followed during the Enlightenment, the road faced by today’s athletes.
This is the magnificent road up a mountain described and painted a thousand times over … the emblematic profile emerging from a sea of vines.

HERITAGE

The Mont Ventoux Biosphere Reserve Mont Ventoux is a fascinating area that was ranked as a Natural Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1999.
This international label acknowledges the outstanding biodiversity, the cultural and historical riches, and the importance of the human activity that works in harmony with nature and the surroundings.

Piémont du Vaucluse - Mont Ventoux
Piémont du Vaucluse - Arbres en fleur

The Biosphere Reserve seeks to reconcile protection of natural resources, countryside and ecosystems along with rational development of human activity.
Mont Ventoux is home to two major systems, for it holds both Mediterranean vegetation and Alpine vegetation.
The Biosphere Reserve includes vast forests of green oak, white oak, cedar, beech, larch, pine and fir.
There are also rare species such as Silene portensis

(campion), the Greenland poppy, Gentiana Alpina, and others.
Many animals live on Mont Ventoux, large mammals such as the chamois, stag and white-tailed deer, and majestic birds of prey such as the royal eagle and the peregrine falcon.
