SAVOURS
– Cherries
Cherry orchards are an essential feature of the countryside here.
They contribute to the well-kept, gardened character of the area. As of June, the ruby-red cherries add colour to the Ventoux plains.
Busy pickers set up ladders, fill baskets with the juicy, crunchy, sun-kissed and sugar-gorged cherry.
The Burlat variety is the most widely grown.
Nougat
Local nougat makers, with the label “Paysans nougatiers” make nougat with local ingredients, includling almonds, and honey from the 100 hives between Mont Ventoux and Luberon.
Muscat
The eating grape crop is part of the polyculture practiced here.
This delicious grape, the Muscat du Ventoux AOC, is grown on wire, called «palissage en lyre» to fully benefit from the outstanding sunshine.
